1. Introduction
Welcome to Dreamie! This Privacy Policy explains how Dreamie ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our website dreamie.app, our mobile applications (if any), and related services (collectively, the "Service"). Dreamie is a digital dream journal that leverages Artificial Intelligence (AI) to provide personalized dream interpretations and insights.
By accessing or using our Service, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in the following ways to provide and improve our Service:
A. Information You Provide to Us:
- Account Information: When you create a Dreamie account (e.g., via Google OAuth), we collect your email address, name, and potentially your profile picture if provided by the OAuth provider and you consent. You may also choose to provide a username during onboarding.
- Dream Journal Entries: We collect the content you input into your dream journal, including dream descriptions, titles you might assign, dates, tags (user-generated or AI-suggested), emotions you log, visibility settings (for Pro users), and any other details you record about your dreams.
- Subscription Information: If you subscribe to a paid plan (e.g., Dreamie Pro), we or our third-party payment processors collect payment information (like credit card details or other payment service details) and information related to your subscription type and status.
- Communications: If you contact us directly (e.g., via our Feedback & Support Form), we may receive additional information about you such as your name, email address, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.
- Feedback and Surveys: Information you provide when you participate in surveys or provide feedback about our Service.
B. Information Collected Automatically:
- Log and Usage Data: We collect information related to your access to and use of the Service, such as your IP address, browser type, operating system, device information, pages viewed, features used (e.g., creating a new dream, requesting interpretation, interacting with Dream Cloud), dates and times of access, and referring/exit pages.
- Cookies and Similar Technologies: We use cookies (small text files stored on your device) and similar tracking technologies to operate and personalize the Service, such as maintaining your session, remembering your settings and preferences, analyzing usage for service improvement, and for security purposes. You can control the use of cookies at the individual browser level.
- AI Interpretation Data: When you request a dream interpretation, your dream text is processed by our AI systems (which may involve third-party AI service providers like OpenAI). We may log aspects of these interactions, including the prompts used and the interpretations generated, for service improvement, quality control, and error analysis.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for various purposes, aligned with providing and enhancing your Dreamie experience:
- To Provide and Maintain Our Service: This includes creating and managing your account, enabling you to record and manage your dreams, providing AI-powered interpretations, facilitating the Dream Cloud community feature, and managing subscriptions.
- To Improve and Personalize Our Service: We analyze how our Service is used to develop new features, enhance existing ones, personalize your experience (e.g., by suggesting relevant content or insights), and to improve the accuracy, relevance, and quality of AI interpretations.
- For Research and Development (Including AI Model Training): A core aspect of Dreamie involves the use of AI. We use the information you provide, specifically including your dream journal entries and any related data, at our discretion for research, analysis, and to train, refine, and improve our AI models, algorithms, and the overall intelligence of the Service. This may involve creating aggregated, anonymized, or pseudonymized datasets from your information.
- To Communicate With You: To send service-related communications (e.g., account verification, updates to our Terms or Privacy Policy, technical notices, security alerts) and to respond to your comments, questions, and customer support requests.
- For Marketing and Promotional Purposes: With your explicit consent where required by applicable law, we may send you emails about new product features, special offers, or other news about Dreamie that we think you might find interesting. You will always have the option to opt-out of these communications.
- To Process Transactions: To manage your subscriptions, process payments securely through our third-party payment processors, and handle billing issues.
- For Security and Fraud Prevention: To maintain the security and integrity of our Service, protect our users and our rights, prevent fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service.
- For Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes (like subpoenas or court orders), or governmental requests.
- Discretionary Use of User Content: As further detailed in our Terms of Service, Dreamie reserves the right to use any content you submit to the Service (including dream journal entries) at our sole discretion for any purpose related to the operation, improvement, development, and promotion of Dreamie, its AI capabilities, and its associated services or future products. While we aim to anonymize or aggregate personal data for such broad uses where feasible, this may not always be the case. Your use of the Service constitutes your agreement to this use.
4. How We Share Your Information
We value your privacy and limit sharing of your personal information to the following circumstances:
- Service Providers: We share information with trusted third-party vendors and service providers that perform essential services on our behalf. These include cloud hosting (e.g., Cloudflare), database management and authentication (e.g., Supabase), AI processing for dream interpretations (e.g., OpenAI or similar providers), payment processing, analytics services, and customer support tools. These providers are contractually bound to use your information only as necessary to provide these services to us and to maintain its confidentiality and security.
- Dream Cloud Community: If you choose to make your dreams public or share them within the Dream Cloud, the content of those dreams, along with your chosen username and avatar, will be visible to other users of the Service, as per your selected visibility settings (Pro users have more control).
- Legal Obligations and Rights Protection: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) comply with a legal obligation or a binding order from a court or government authority; (b) protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of Dreamie, our users, or the public; (c) prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing in connection with the Service; or (d) protect against legal liability.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, receivership, sale of company assets, or transition of service to another provider, your information may be sold or transferred as part of such a transaction as permitted by law and/or contract. We will notify you via email and/or a prominent notice on our Service of any change in ownership or uses of your personal information.
- With Your Explicit Consent: We may share your information with other third parties when we have your explicit consent to do so for a specific purpose.
- Discretionary Sharing for Research and Development: Consistent with our discretionary use rights outlined in Section 3 and our Terms of Service, we may share data derived from user inputs (which may include aggregated, anonymized, or pseudonymized dream content or insights derived therefrom) with academic researchers, AI development partners, or for other business purposes aimed at advancing the understanding of dreams or improving AI technology.
5. Your Data Rights and Choices
We provide you with choices regarding the information you provide to us and that we collect. Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information:
- Access and Update Your Information: You can review and update certain account information (like your username or avatar preferences) through your account settings within Dreamie.
- Delete Your Information: You can delete individual dream entries from your journal. You may also request the deletion of your entire Dreamie account by contacting us. Upon account deletion, we will take steps to delete your personal information from our active databases, subject to our data retention policies (see Section 7) and any legal or operational needs to retain certain information.
- Control Dream Visibility: If you are a Pro plan subscriber, you have enhanced controls over the public visibility of your dreams shared in the Dream Cloud. Free users‘ dreams submitted for interpretation may be made public by default.
- Manage Cookies: Most web browsers are set to accept cookies by default. You can usually choose to set your browser to remove or reject browser cookies. Please note that if you choose to remove or reject cookies, this could affect the availability and functionality of our Service.
- Opt-out of Marketing Communications: You can opt-out of receiving promotional emails from us by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in those emails or by contacting us directly via our Feedback & Support Form. You may still receive transactional or service-related emails (e.g., account security, policy updates).
- Data Portability: In some jurisdictions, you may have the right to request a copy of your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format.
To exercise any of these rights applicable to you, please contact us via our Feedback & Support Form. We will process such requests in accordance with applicable data protection laws. We may need to verify your identity before processing your request.
6. Data Security
We implement and maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security safeguards designed to protect the personal information we collect from loss, theft, misuse, and unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration, and destruction. For example, we use HTTPS for data transmission and rely on the security infrastructure of our cloud service providers. However, please be aware that no security measures are perfect or impenetrable, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your Dreamie account is active or as needed to provide you with the Service. We also retain personal information to comply with our legal obligations (e.g., for tax and accounting purposes), resolve disputes, enforce our agreements, and for backup and disaster recovery purposes. Dream content and data derived from it (including AI model improvements) may be retained for longer periods, including in anonymized, pseudonymized, or aggregated form, for research and service improvement purposes, even after your account is deleted.
8. Children's Privacy
Our Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 13 (or a different age threshold applicable in your jurisdiction, such as 16 for users in the European Economic Area/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under the applicable age threshold without verifiable parental consent, we will take steps to delete such information. If you are a parent or guardian and believe that your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us via our Feedback & Support Form.
9. International Data Transfers
Dreamie is operated in the United States. If you are located outside of the United States, please be aware that information we collect, including personal data, will be transferred to, processed, and stored in the United States. Data protection laws in the U.S. may be different from those of your country of residence. By using our Service, you consent to the transfer of your information to the U.S. and its use and disclosure as described in this Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, service offerings, or legal requirements. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email (sent to the email address specified in your account), by posting a prominent notice on our Service before the change becomes effective, or as otherwise required by applicable law. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the Service after any changes or revisions to this Privacy Policy shall indicate your agreement with the terms of such revised Privacy Policy.
